South Africa Denies Deportees Entering Through Informal Routes

South Africa’s Border Management Authority says its land Ports of Entry with Eswatini are secured and access controls remain in place….reports Africa Daily News Desk

South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) has dismissed claims that deportees are entering the country through informal border crossings, saying land Ports of Entry with the Kingdom of Eswatini remain secured.

The BMA said access control measures were in place at designated entry and exit points and that authorities continued to monitor and secure the country’s borders.

“The BMA dismisses claims that deportees are entering South Africa through informal border crossings,” the authority said in a statement.

It said it was working alongside other law enforcement agencies to maintain a presence across the country’s Ports of Entry and conduct border surveillance and enforcement operations.

These operations are aimed at preventing and detecting unlawful entry, including the smuggling and trafficking of people, according to the BMA.

The authority also clarified that people transiting through South African airports on international transfers do not enter the Republic.

“It is imperative to understand that any person who is in transit through South African Airports go through international transfers without entering the Republic,” the BMA said.

It added that any attempt to circumvent formal Ports of Entry would be subject to detection and enforcement action.
