Kenya on Monday hosted a major China Kenya Business Forum in Nairobi, bringing together more than 350 government officials and business leaders to boost bilateral trade and investment, according to Xinhua.

The forum, themed around China’s zero tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic ties to Beijing, was jointly organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, Xinhua reported.

Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin and Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui addressed the gathering, alongside representatives from leading Chinese and Kenyan firms.

Ren said China will implement zero tariff treatment for eligible African countries from May 1, offering expanded access for African exports to the Chinese market. He urged businesses from both sides to seize new opportunities and deepen cooperation.

The forum also showcased Kenyan products that will benefit from the policy, with sectors such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing highlighted as key areas for growth.

According to Xinhua, 64 Chinese enterprises from industries including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing and finance participated in the event. Companies from both countries signed procurement agreements and explored partnerships in coffee, avocados and mineral resources.

Business to business matchmaking sessions were held across multiple sectors, including agriculture and food, manufacturing, energy and mining, trade and finance, and technology, aimed at fostering practical collaboration.

Government and industry representatives also discussed key issues such as implementation of the zero tariff policy, development of logistics corridors and strengthening agricultural cooperation.

At an accompanying exhibition, 25 Kenyan companies displayed specialty products eligible for export under the zero tariff arrangement, reflecting growing trade potential between the two countries, Xinhua reported.
