Kenyan President William Ruto has welcomed Bloomberg’s interest in investing in Kenya, saying the company’s presence could help attract more investors and highlight opportunities in the country and across Africa.
Ruto made the remarks after meeting Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussions focused on potential partnerships in public health, clean energy and climate action.
Ruto said Bloomberg’s involvement could help showcase the growth of the Nairobi Securities Exchange and use its global network to highlight Kenya’s economic opportunities.

The talks also included a proposal to establish a Green Technology Accelerator Hub in Kenya. According to Ruto, the proposed initiative would support innovation, help scale green solutions and contribute to Africa’s transition towards a sustainable economy.
The meeting also covered clean cooking, with Ruto saying the two sides had agreed to work together on the second Clean Cooking Summit, which Kenya is due to host in Nairobi in January 2027.
The summit is scheduled for January 27 and 28 and will bring together governments, investors, development partners and other stakeholders to advance access to clean cooking across Africa. The event is being co hosted by Kenya, Norway, the United States and the International Energy Agency, alongside other partners.
Ruto has identified clean cooking as an important part of Kenya’s energy and development agenda. During a high level event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, he highlighted a $600 million investment opportunity in institutional clean cooking covering schools, healthcare facilities and correctional services.
The planned summit is expected to focus on turning existing commitments into investment and projects. The International Energy Agency said the January meeting would seek further financial and political commitments to expand clean cooking access across Africa.

Ruto said the wider discussions with Bloomberg would support efforts to attract investment into Kenya while advancing initiatives linked to clean energy and climate action.
The Kenyan President has previously promoted the country as a destination for foreign investment, particularly in technology, innovation and green industries. His latest meeting with Bloomberg came during a series of engagements with business leaders and international partners around the UN General Assembly.
The proposed Green Technology Accelerator Hub would add to Kenya’s efforts to position itself as a centre for green innovation, although details on its funding, governance and implementation timeline have not yet been publicly outlined.
The discussions also reflect Kenya’s broader push to build international partnerships around climate action, clean energy and sustainable economic development.
