Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to serve all citizens without discrimination as he began his second term in office, outlining economic growth, job creation and self-reliance as key priorities for his government.

In a message following the swearing-in ceremony, Hichilema said he had taken the oath of office with gratitude and a clear understanding that leadership was a responsibility to serve rather than a reward.

He thanked those who supported him while extending an assurance to citizens who voted against him, saying his government would serve every Zambian equally.

“Our political choices may differ, but our country and our destiny are one,” Hichilema said, stressing that the elections were over and the focus must now shift towards building the nation.

Reflecting on his first term, the President said it had focused on restoring stability and laying the foundations for national development. The next phase, he said, would concentrate on expanding the economy, creating jobs and opportunities, strengthening communities and ensuring that development benefits reached households across the country.

Hichilema also called for greater public participation in national development, saying the government alone could not build Zambia.

He urged citizens to embrace productivity and self-reliance by increasing domestic production, supporting enterprise and investment, growing exports and reducing dependence on imported goods.

“Zambia must increasingly stand on the strength of its own people and resources,” he said.

Addressing international partners, Hichilema reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to peace, democracy and sovereignty, describing the country as a reliable partner committed to stability, trade and investment.

The President concluded by pledging an administration that would listen and work for the people while pursuing a “more prosperous, united and resilient Zambia.”

Invoking the country’s national motto, Hichilema called on citizens to put political divisions aside and work together for the nation’s future: “One Zambia, One Nation, One People.”
