The African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) have discussed ways to strengthen their partnership on peace and security, with a focus on improving institutional cooperation and supporting African-led peace initiatives.

Chairperson of the African Union Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf received a high-level European Union delegation led by the Managing Director for Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS), comprising members of the EU Political and Security Committee.

The meeting reviewed the existing AU-EU partnership and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation on shared peace and security priorities.

Youssouf stressed the need to translate political commitments into tangible outcomes, highlighting the importance of the EU Delegation to the African Union and EU Special Representatives across the continent in strengthening relations between the two organisations.

Both sides also discussed improving coordination through joint missions and strategic communications to support African-led peace efforts.

The discussions underscored the importance of closer institutional engagement between the two blocs in addressing shared security challenges and advancing peace initiatives across the continent.
