Uganda and China have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination on multilateral issues, including the reform of the United Nations Security Council, during talks in Kampala.

Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adonia Ayebare, held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Wu Guangrong at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, according to Uganda’s foreign ministry.

The discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic engagement and cooperation between the two countries, with particular attention to coordination on international and multilateral matters.

Ayebare reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to the African Union’s Common Position on UN Security Council reform. He stressed the importance of ensuring that Africa’s interests and representation remain central to the ongoing reform process.

The two sides also discussed upcoming international and multilateral meetings and highlighted the need for continued consultations and coordination on issues of mutual interest.

Wu Guangrong emphasised China’s importance to its partnership with Uganda and called for continued cooperation on international matters.

The Chinese ambassador also discussed reciprocal support for candidatures in multilateral institutions, according to Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular consultations and strengthening Uganda-China relations through continued diplomatic engagement.

The meeting comes as discussions over reform of the UN Security Council continue, including calls from African countries for greater representation in the body’s decision-making structures.
