Democratic Republic of Congo Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka has called for greater participation by women in decision-making, peacebuilding and economic transformation during a forum on women’s leadership held alongside the UN General Assembly in New York.
Suminwa took part in the Global Women Leadership Forum of the African Women Leaders Network on September 26, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The forum focused on women’s leadership and the transformation of global governance, with the Congolese Prime Minister outlining several priorities for strengthening women’s role in public and economic affairs.
Suminwa stressed the importance of ensuring women’s effective participation in decision-making spaces and called for their full involvement in peace and reconstruction processes.
She also highlighted the need to integrate women’s leadership into economic transformation and called for greater opportunities for young women to take on leadership responsibilities.
The Prime Minister also praised the commitment of Congolese President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to promoting what she described as positive masculinity and combating violence against women and girls.
Her remarks came as world leaders and representatives gathered in New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where issues including peace, development, gender equality and global governance are being discussed.
The African Women Leaders Network brings together women leaders and advocates from across the continent to promote women’s participation in leadership and decision-making.
Suminwa’s participation highlighted the Democratic Republic of Congo’s focus on women’s representation and leadership as part of broader discussions on governance, peace and development.
