Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, as India prepares to host leaders from member and partner countries for the two-day high-level gathering.
Alupo was warmly received at the airport by Union Minister of State Jayant Singh.
Welcoming the Ugandan Vice President, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the close relationship between the two countries.
“India and Uganda share warm and friendly ties rooted in shared history and a growing contemporary partnership, in both bilateral and multilateral spheres,” the MEA said in a post on X.
Earlier on Friday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also arrived in New Delhi to participate in the summit. He was received at the airport by Jayant Singh.
The MEA said India and South Africa share “warm and historic ties” anchored in a Strategic Partnership, while stressing their commitment as BRICS partners to advancing the interests of the Global South.
India, which holds the BRICS chair in 2026, will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees.
According to the MEA, participating leaders will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation within BRICS on common priorities and exchange views on global and regional issues of mutual importance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said leaders from around the world would gather in New Delhi for the summit and expressed confidence that the meeting would produce positive and meaningful discussions focused on global welfare.
“Over the next few days, leaders from around the world will gather for the BRICS Summit. I am confident that the Summit will see positive and meaningful discussions on various issues with the welfare of the world in mind,” Modi said in a post on X.
Preparations for the summit were underway at Bharat Mandapam, the venue in New Delhi, on Thursday night as the capital geared up for the arrival of international leaders and representatives.
“This is Delhi. This is the moment. With its heritage glowing and Bharat Mandapam gearing up, the capital puts the finishing touches in place for the 18th BRICS Summit,” the official 18th BRICS Summit X account said.
