The South African government has announced a series of measures to strengthen migration management, tighten border security and intensify law enforcement as part of a coordinated five-point national strategy.
According to an official government statement released on Sunday, the plan is aimed at strengthening migration management, upholding the rule of law and protecting human dignity.
The government said law enforcement agencies have stepped up operations against illegal border crossings, human trafficking, labour exploitation, fraudulent documentation, illegal mining and criminal networks that exploit vulnerable people.
Authorities also highlighted the role of the Musina Temporary Repatriation Processing Centre, saying it has enabled orderly, dignified and coordinated repatriation procedures while ensuring humanitarian support for vulnerable foreign nationals.

The government said it is expanding operations at the Musina facility but clarified that deportation and repatriation would not be compulsory. Instead, support would be provided at designated assembly points where required.
As part of the strategy, South Africa is strengthening border security through joint operations, improved surveillance, infrastructure upgrades and the modernisation of border entry points.
The statement added that South Africa will continue working with neighbouring countries and continental organisations to address migration pressures through cooperation, solidarity and sustainable solutions.
The government also said it is closing policy and legislative gaps to build a migration system that is secure, humane, lawful, economically responsible and aligned with the country’s Constitution.
