The three agreements are expected to cover public health, economic and trade exchanges, and scientific and technical cooperation. Another agreement will focus on vocational training for young Congolese people under Russia’s Alabuga Start programme.

The programme is among the initiatives linked to the visit, which also includes a ceremony at which Tshisekedi is due to receive an honorary doctorate from the Russian University of Friendship of Peoples (RUDN), also known as Patrice Lumumba University.

The summit brings together Russian and African leaders to discuss cooperation across political, economic and diplomatic fields. Tshisekedi’s visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the DRC and Russia to strengthen bilateral relations through agreements spanning several sectors.

The Congolese presidency has outlined the planned meetings and agreements as key elements of the president’s Moscow visit. Further details of the agreements were not provided in the announcement.
