South African police have launched a 72 hour tracking operation to find those responsible for a mass shooting that killed 11 people at KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.
Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Puleng Dimpane, directed the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Commissioner to immediately activate the operation following the shooting on Tuesday night, September 22.
Three other people were injured after armed suspects reportedly entered a house in the Ziko area and opened fire on people gathered inside.

Dimpane expressed concern over the loss of life and offered condolences to the families of those killed, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
“There is no place in our communities for the senseless taking of human lives. Police must act decisively, mobilise all available resources and pursue those responsible until they are brought before the courts. We are confident that investigators are following a promising lead which could assist in securing a breakthrough in this case,” Dimpane said.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been established and investigations are continuing.
SAPS has appealed to members of the public to provide reliable information that could help investigators identify, trace and apprehend the suspects.
Information can be provided directly to the investigating team or anonymously through Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Members of the public can also leave an anonymous tip through the MySAPS App.
Police said they would continue efforts to ensure those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
