Somalia is stepping up efforts to modernise its transport and logistics sector as a high level delegation from the Mogadishu Port Authority participates in a major global forum in Russia.

The Director General of the authority, Amb Americo, is leading the delegation to the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St Petersburg, being held from April 1 to 3, 2026. The event brings together global policymakers, industry leaders and logistics experts to discuss emerging trends, innovation and international trade cooperation.

Somalia’s participation highlights its push to upgrade the capacity and efficiency of Mogadishu Port, a vital hub for the country’s economy and trade flows. Officials say the visit is aimed at attracting foreign investment and building strategic partnerships in port management, maritime logistics and supply chain development.

During the forum, the Somali delegation is expected to hold bilateral meetings and technical discussions with international stakeholders, focusing on improving infrastructure, adopting advanced technologies and enhancing operational standards.

The forum is widely regarded as a key platform for fostering cross border collaboration and improving global connectivity. Somalia’s presence signals its growing ambition to integrate more deeply into regional and international trade networks.
