Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto has commended the country’s Under-20 athletics team for its impressive performance at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, United States, where it secured 11 medals to finish second overall.
Kenya won four gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the championships, with Ruto praising the young athletes for their talent, discipline and determination.
Wilson Chepkwech won gold in the 1,500m, while Emmanuel Kiprono claimed the top prize in the 3,000m. Frankline Kibet secured gold in the 5,000m, with Josephine Sembeyo Mancha also finishing first in the women’s 1,500m.
David Kapaiko Sekento won silver in the 1,500m, Nehemiah Kipngeno took silver in the 5,000m and Emmanuel Lemiso Someki finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Kenya’s bronze medallists were Nicholas Kitum Losiwareng in the 3,000m steeplechase, Caren Chepchirchir in the 1,500m, Joyline Chepkemoi in the 5,000m and Anatasha Cheptoo in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Ruto particularly highlighted Kiprono’s performance in the men’s 3,000m, where he set a championship record of 7:28.28.
The President said the team’s performance had made Kenya proud and demonstrated the country’s continued standing among the world’s leading athletics nations.
“Hongera Team Kenya. Asanteni sana for flying our flag high,” Ruto said while congratulating the athletes.
