A passenger aircraft crashed near Juba on Monday, killing all 14 people on board, according to the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority.

In a press release issued on April 27, the aviation authority confirmed that the crash occurred about 20 kilometres southwest of Juba in South Sudan. The aircraft involved was identified as a Cessna 208 Caravan bearing registration 5Y NOK and operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd..

According to the statement, the aircraft departed Yei for Juba International Airport at 9:15 am local time before losing communication at around 9:43 am.

Authorities said there were 13 passengers and one pilot on board. The victims included two Kenyan nationals and 12 South Sudanese nationals. Officials confirmed that there were no survivors.

Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft may have crashed due to adverse weather conditions, particularly poor visibility, the statement added.

The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority said emergency response teams had been deployed to the crash site to gather information and support recovery operations.

The authority also expressed condolences to the families and relatives of those killed in the tragedy, adding that further updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available.
