Morocco crowned AFCON champions after appeal ruling finds Senegal guilty of misconduct in chaotic final…reports Asian Lite News
Senegal have been stripped of their Africa Cup of Nations title after CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that the team forfeited the 2025 final, handing Morocco a 3 to 0 victory in a dramatic reversal of the tournament result.
In a detailed decision, the Confederation of African Football said the ruling was made under Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations, following an appeal by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football. The board found that Senegal’s conduct during the final constituted a breach of the rules, leading to the match being awarded to Morocco.
The appeal was upheld, overturning an earlier disciplinary decision. CAF ruled that the actions of the Senegal team fell within the scope of misconduct provisions, and that the team had effectively forfeited the match. As a result, the final score has been officially recorded as 3 to 0 in favour of Morocco.
The board also issued a series of additional rulings linked to incidents during the match. Morocco’s Ismaël Saibari was found guilty of misconduct, with his sanction reduced to a two match suspension, one of which is suspended, while a previously imposed fine of 100,000 dollars was scrapped.
CAF further held Morocco’s federation responsible for the conduct of ball boys, reducing the related fine to 50,000 dollars. A separate 100,000 dollar fine over interference around the VAR review area was upheld, while a penalty linked to a laser incident was reduced to 10,000 dollars.
All other appeals and motions were dismissed, bringing closure to one of the most controversial finals in the tournament’s history.
