Rwanda has invited India to participate in the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa next year, as both countries seek to strengthen cooperation in science, technology and emerging sectors.

According to the Department of Atomic Energy, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to India, Jacqueline Mukangira, met Union Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to personally deliver an invitation from Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

The Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa, known as NEISA 2026, is scheduled to take place in Kigali from May 18 to 21 next year.

Although Singh expressed regret that he would be unable to travel to Rwanda in person, he confirmed that he would participate virtually and address one of the summit sessions.

The event will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre and is being organised in partnership with several international organisations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Nuclear Energy Agency and the World Nuclear Association.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to expand India Rwanda cooperation in areas including atomic energy applications, digital capacity building, innovation, science and technology, and emerging technologies.

Singh highlighted India’s expanding role in advanced sectors such as nuclear energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, digital governance and space technology, driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on technology led development.

The Department of Atomic Energy said the Rwandan delegation expressed strong interest in India’s scientific and technological progress and showed willingness to deepen partnerships with Indian research institutions, ministries and innovation platforms.

Both countries also explored opportunities for collaboration in education, research, innovation ecosystems and skills development initiatives.

Singh said India places significant importance on international cooperation in transformative technologies and remains committed to supporting countries of the Global South through partnerships focused on innovation and sustainable development.
