More than 1,200 members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India joined celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day at India House in Nairobi, with patriotic programmes and cultural performances highlighting the country’s heritage.

High Commissioner of India to Kenya Adarsh Swaika unfurled the Tricolour and read President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation during the celebrations.

“Celebrating India At 80. The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at India House in Nairobi. High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika unfurled the Tiranga and read the President’s address to the nation. A medley of cultural performances showcased the rich cultural heritage of India. The celebrations also marked 150 years of Vande Mataram, with a rendition and mass singing of the National Song.

Similar Independence Day celebrations were held in Bahrain, where more than 1,000 members of the Indian community gathered for the occasion.

Indian Ambassador to Bahrain Vinod K. Jacob hoisted the Tricolour at the Embassy of India in Bahrain. The embassy said the community came together “in a spirit of unity, pride and patriotism across Bahrain”.

Ambassador Jacob also read President Murmu’s Independence Day message and encouraged members of the Indian community to participate actively in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” movement.

In France, Ambassador Sanjeev Singla hoisted the national flag as the Embassy of India took part in the Surya Path Tiranga campaign.

The campaign involves the relay of the Indian Tricolour through Indian missions and diplomatic posts around the world, symbolising shared national pride and marking the Independence Day celebrations globally.

The celebrations in France also featured a rendition of Vande Mataram and a cultural programme hosted by teachers from the Indian Cultural Centre in Paris, along with local artists.

Prizes were also awarded to the top performers in the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz in France as part of the celebrations.

The events across the three countries brought together members of the Indian diaspora and local communities to mark India’s Independence Day through flag hoisting, cultural programmes and activities highlighting the country’s history and heritage.
